Translated as ‘The Black & Reds’, Stade Rennais are one of the oldest teams in French football. Founded in 1901, Rennes are one of the founding teams of the French first division, and have had a pretty steady history.
Stade Rennais are yet to win Ligue 1, with their best finish in the top tier a 4th place, a feat which they have repeated four times to date. Twice winners of the Coup de France, in 1965 and 1971, it’s perhaps their bitter rivalry with close neighbours FC Nantes which is the highlight of the season for many fans, known as the Derby Breton.
